I recently bumped into an old friend and his wife, who had just returned from a trip to Bahamas and could not stop singing praises of the place. This was not the first time I had met someone full of praises for Bahamas, so, now I was even more determined to explore this popular place. But, I had just lost my job, followed by my girlfriend and my bank balance had dropped to bare minimum. I was left to choose between my financial situation that wouldn’t permit me to take the trip and my traumatic situation (forget the job, loss of girl friend causes trauma) that was compelling me to go to Bahamas. I decided to strike a truce between the two and go for a ‘No Frills’ trip to Bahamas.
Though people believe that the best time to visit this favorite destination of the rich and the famous is chilly winters, I landed at the glamorous Nassau Island in Bahamas late spring. My friends had told me about the cheapest way to get to this island and it seriously helped me save a huge deal of money. I took lowest cost flight to Miami and then a ferry to reach this white sand island. As it was an off season, I was able to find a tolerable accommodation at unbelievably low rates. Golden sunshine and pristine beaches make Nassau popular and I ensured that I experienced both these to the fullest. Walking on the beaches with the white sand slipping into the toes and watching the ways hit the shores is an experience that cannot be traded for any amount of money. I also spent some time strolling down the old town and observing some fascinating buildings of 18th century. I especially loved the pink colored Parliament building. I also visited Fort Charlotte which is the biggest fort in the area. It treasures of canons, underground passages, dungeons completely surprised me. Instead of eating at pricey restaurants, I savored the local delicacies at various hole-in-the-wall shops present downtown. I ended my trip with a visit to the Christ Church Citadel which is the fifth building built when Nassau became a city.
My ‘No Frills’ trip to Nassau was an exciting and mesmerizing experience and I will cherish it throughout my life.
