For a Spring break, I flew to Washington D.C., the nation’s capitol without any pre-plan or anything. I had 5 days off, so thought of spending 4 nights in Washington D.C., exploring various incredible sights on a budget. Luckily, I got my ticket booked before a week but I still didn’t have any idea about what all things I’m going to do there. I well knew the fact that visiting Washington D.C. does not need high bank balances as there are plenty of ways to enjoy, sticking to a budget.
Before my visit to Washington D.C., I was only able to list out some of the attractions that won’t charge for admissions. After getting in there, I got some guidelines for few budget attractions, cheap hotels, entertainments spots, shopping and many more, which were not there in my list. The way it fits everyone on a budget is via the public transportation, so I preferred it. In some of the places, I even opted to walk along the streets and I discovered that DC was only designed keeping pedestrians in mind.
Some of the places that I visited free of charge were the Smithsonian museums, the National Zoo, National Gallery of Art and also the memorials. I was looking for some evening entertainment in this energetic political city and around 6 pm at the Millennium Stage in The Kennedy Center, I found free performances and became a part of the huge audiences. I also booked a room at the St. Gregory Luxury Hotel as it offered various discounts on food as well as room. There are I came to know about the guided tours with knowledgeable guides and good transportation. But its main disadvantage was, they may take you to the places you are not interested in or spend more time at a boring attraction or even skip the places you are really interested in to see in Washington D.C.. So, I didn’t show much interest in it, I myself explored the major and eye-pleasing sites.
I found a great source where the locals of Washington ate without breaking their bank. One night before leaving, I also went at the Old Ebbit Grill for a fabulous dinner along with the finest wine available in Washington. It was really scrumptious and made me say Yummo!
What I discovered during my budget trip to Washington D.C. was that you just need to be more creative and enjoyable to have lots of fun on a budget. I had a blast within those few days which I spent in DC. I was glad that I went there, travelled passionately, planned my budget wisely and experienced some out of the world things.
