Budget Destination 2012 – Poland

DubaiYou must be wondering, out of all places to visit in the world, why am I suggesting Poland as a budget destination for 2012? I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Poland and have seriously fallen in love with this place. Being a history buff, I always wanted to travel to this part of the world where World War II was initiated. The destructions done during the World War II are still visible, though many of the historic monuments have been restored.

Almost every city I visited had a historic significance attached to it and trust me even if you are not a history lover, Poland has many things to offer you too. A fact that not many people are aware of is that there are around 13 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Poland. Poland is a haven for budget travelers with excellent options available for cheap accommodation, food and going around. I found it really surprising that though Poland has progressed so much, it has still conserved its heritage and historic significance. The top tourist cities here were also amongst the largest and most industrialized cities. I visited various tourist attraction cities like Krakow, Warsaw, Lodz, Wroclaw and Gdansk to name a few. I also visited the beautiful Hel Peninsula and visited the seal conservation centre there. The evidence of cruelty, inhumanity and painful times of World War II was the Ghettos.

Apart from museums, gardens and art galleries, the other attractions of Poland that I visited includes skiing on the Tatra Mountains, visiting the world heritage salt mine, entering the prehistoric times at the Old Town of Krakow and Warsaw and many more.

Poland is growing economy and I feel this growth will also boost up tourism here and even the local people I met there told me the same. I was also informed that Poland would be co-hosting the UEFA Euro Soccer Tournament 2012 with Ukraine (I am not a sports fan, so I was completely clueless about it). Though the game may attract crowds and it will cause the prices to go up. They may also drop down after the games just like it happened in South Africa after World Cup 2010. Lower prices would make Poland an attractive destination for budget travelers. The ideal time of planning a trip would be September when the holidays as well as games are over and one can bargain a better deal. Coming up of new airports at various places, it is expected that there will be a rise in the number of people visiting this diverse and beautiful place.

Poland is surely gaining its position as one of the budget places to visit in 2012 and even I would like to strike this opportunity and visit Poland again in 2012.
