Budget Destination 2012 – San Diego

San DiegoSan Diego has been an all time favorite of individuals, couples and even families since long. Though the city has revitalized, it has preserved the same fresh, flunky flavor which you can feel every time you enter this city. I have visited this city on several occasions, even the last year and San Diego has not spared a single time to amaze and delight me. A lesson that I have learnt from my several visits to San Diego is that it is not a cheap city but can be explored well even by a budget traveler.

On my recent visit to the city last year, I had decided that I would only go to places which are free i.e. do not charge any entry fees. I found so many things to do there that I was completely engrossed for the entire two days. The first thing that I did after reaching San Diego (and I always do), is proceed towards the beach, swim and collect sea shells. San Diego has many beaches and they are open to public. I also added some adventure to my trip and did snorkeling and scuba diving at the shores. I also enjoyed flying kites at Missions Bay Park, which is a famous aquatic park spread across 4600 acres. A visit to the downtown Seaport Village ensured hours of free entertainment and recreation and I leisurely strolled down the markets doing window shopping. I also wandered through the historic buildings of the Old Town and also went to the oldest schoolhouse in the city. As it was a Sunday, I was lucky enough to attend a free outdoor pipe organ concert called Spreckels Organ Pavilion Concert. The pipe organ here regarded as one of the largest in the world. There were many more activities I could do for free, but I did not have more time and had to head back home.

Even though San Deigo is one of the top 10 most visited cities in America, in my last trip I found that hotels in San Deigo are offering significant discounts. America has not completely recovered from the subprime crisis and I feel this discount at San Diego is a way of attracting tourists back to this city. I expect the trend of low prices to continue in 2012 before rising back in 2013 as there is a construction boom going on here.

It is a golden time to visit San Diego for a weekend getaway or a longer duration and get a true value for money on your budget trip to San Diego.
