What’s my intention behind recommending Azores, as one of the best travel destinations for 2012? You must be wondering, have I ever visited it before or just telling you to visit it without any reason. Yes, I have visited Azores during mid of this year and found it so enjoying and amazing that I felt it should be one of the best tourist destinations for 2012. Being an autonomous region of Portugal, the chain of nine volcanic islands, off the coast of Lisbon is worth visiting. Azores was so full of energy and fascination that I spent whole 5 days in Azores rather than 3 as I had planned. I had a great experience with the climate, cuisine and life of Azores.
What I found from the locals was that the best time visit Azores is July-September. As the climate is mild throughout the year, many adventure tourists prefer October. During October the temperatures naturally hit 70 degrees which also marks the beginning of low season of Azores that runs through May. I visited Azores during July as I was told that it is best period to visit Azores as it is at its best. After reaching Azores, I stayed at the coastal Bahia Palace Hotel located on the Sao Miguel Island where I was fortunate enough to get an ocean-facing balcony room.
I started my journey for exploring Azores from the Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel which had many monasteries, churches, convents and ultimate forts. I then walked around the marina and sat at the cafes situated along the boulevard. The lagoons like the Furnas and Lagoa das Sete Cidades had their own charm and peaceful feeling. The lakes, gardens and also views of this area made my trip memorable. The city of Horta, is made as a lively port due to its marina filled with various boats as well as yachts. I climbed up the Monte de Guia, from where I had an incredible view of the city and its lively port. As such there were many places to visit in Azores which made my trip interesting and exciting.
The locals of Azores were also very polite, helpful and provided me with the information I asked for. Some of them also told me ways I could enjoy activities and explore Azores within a budget. I got a sense of tranquility and peace during my budget trip to Azores, and even you can. Azores can really be one of the best budget destinations for 2012.
